Don’t Let Your Bad Skin Habits Stop Your Daily Glow!
Unless you were raised by an aesthetician, you’ve probably broken some, if not all, of these bad skin habits at least a few times in your life. To make sure that you know the harm you are doing to your skin when you break these skin commandments, here is a list of the top 6 bad skin habits that you need to start breaking today.
1. Not Changing Your Pillowcase
Believe it or not, your pillowcase may be a reason that your skin isn’t as clear as you’d like. Because your face spends around 8 hours every day lying on it, it collects dead skin cells, oil, and bacteria that accumulate over time. When you lie down each night, you re-subject the skin on your face to matter that will cause zits.
To avoid this, change your pillowcase at least once a week. If possible, try to change it twice a week to give your skin a break.
2. Not Wearing the SPF
Who doesn’t love a good tan? Your skin, that’s who! When skin tans, it actually becomes damaged because of the UV penetration. Especially during the summer, make sure to lather on broad-spectrum SPF that will protect you from the damaging and aging rays of the sun.
If you hate looking pale, try a self-tanning lotion or spray tan that has no dangerous side-effects.
3. Talking on Your Cell Phone Too Much
If you spend a lot of time talking on your cell phone, you might want to think about getting a headset. One study showed that cell phones carry around a disgusting amount of bacteria that comes in contact with your face every time you make a call.
If you can’t stand the thought of separating from your cell phone, you might want to consider buying a headset that leaves the skin on your face clear of disgusting bacteria.
4. Not Washing Your Face at Night
By far the most common bad skin habit is not washing your face at night. During the day, so much grime accumulates on your skin that needs to be washed off before lying down at night. This is because during the night, your body temperature rises slightly, causing your skin to absorb a lot of what is on your skin.
Make sure to wash your skin before going to bed so that you don’t wake up in the morning to find a bright red present on your t-zone from all of the bacteria of the day before.
5. Popping Your Zits
It is so tempting. When you see a zit start to appear, you want to get rid of it as fast as you can. Unfortunately, popping zits can actually do more harm than good. This is because it squeezes bacteria eve further into your pore, which can cause infection and even scarring.
Even though you might think that it’s a good temporary solution, popping zits might actually cause lasting blemishes.
6. Skipping the Moisturizer
If you have oily skin, you might be tempted to skip the moisturizer, not wanting to make your skin even more oily. Even though it sounds counter-intuitive, it is very important to moisturize every day, especially if you have oily skin.
When you don’t moisturize, your skin senses that it needs more hydration, so it produces oil in larger amounts. This results in oily-looking skin. If you would have moisturized, however, you may have been able to avoid the shine altogether.
